Courtney MacNeil
Paris, France
I had studied humanities and literature in grad school, and then I had the typical quarter-life crisis. I didn't know what field I wanted to work in, and haphazardly, I was trying to find anything.
After several months of looking (with no luck) I decided I'll travel around, and take some time to figure things out.
I went to London first and then moved around for three to four months. Paris was the last stop, and when I got there, something just clicked.
Within a few weeks, I found an entry-level position at Agence ELAN, a start-up PR firm that had six employees at the time.
After three years, the company has grown to more than 50 people, and my job has since evolved into a senior management role.
Considering I had no work experience before, moving abroad was a springboard for my career. It really is a success story of being in the right place at the right time.
