Frustrated with their job searches these workers decided to stop looking for traditional jobs. Some retired, while others are reinventing themselves.
Jeff Wadley was forced to retire from IBM in 2012, after 26 years on the job. After years of job stress and a divorce, he decided "the only way I'd see 60" was to drop out of the labor force and live off his $250,000 in retirement savings. His only regret is that his New Jersey house was among those devastated by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Banks are hesitant to give him a loan to rebuild, so he may have to dip into his retirement. For now, he rents a condo near the New Jersey shore and doesn't regret retiring. He doesn't live large, and is thankful for what he has. "I'm not suffering."
