HMS Holdings' subsidiaries contract with state and federal agencies to recover health care claims, detect fraud and coordinate pharmacy services. The firm mines medical claims, insurance information and other data to dig up instances of payment errors and waste.

The company expects to boost its core government business as a result of recently enacted health care reform. According to the Congressional Budget Office, Medicaid enrollment will rise to a total of 78 million Americans by 2019, 26% higher than today's levels. HMS also acquired Verify Solutions last year, extending its reach to the private sector. In the last three years, HMS posted annualized earnings-per-share growth of 61%, with revenues up 32%.--D.M.
