New Cadillac CTS: Superb performance

The redesigned 2008 Cadillac CTS is everything a 21st century Cadillac should be.

The CTS's stereo has a number of wonderful features. For one thing, it has a Tivo-like capability. If your favorite radio show gets interrupted, just press Pause. When you get back to the car, you can pick up right where you left off.

When you put a CD into the drive, you can hit "Record" to have all the songs copied onto the CTS's optional 40-gig hard drive. It automatically collects album information and track names from the Gracenote database on the Internet so you always see the actual title of the song you're listening to, not just a track number.

You can also listen to MP3s straight off a simple flash drive, also known as a thumb drive, plugged into a USB port hidden inside the CTS's center storage bin.

It's a testament to the skill of GM's interface designers that I never once had to reach for the owner's manual to figure out any of this stuff. And most importantly, it sounds wonderful.
