Pay down student loans

His story: "I took the last stimulus check and paid down my student loans. I'll do the same thing if another check comes my way.
I would very much like to buy a new car - the deals offered now are phenomenal, no doubt about it. But this economy has got to be the worst it's ever been for people my age or younger. I would rather pay down the student loans I have and drive a beat up car than put pen to paper on another $20,000 worth of debt when unemployment is 7% and rising.
