My father, who was from Jefferson City, started this business in 1983. Back then the video surveillance market was one of those paper-clip industries that no one really paid attention to. My dad ran into an acquaintance who worked for Wal-Mart. The retailer was rolling out its first CCTV deployment and it was looking for dome-like housing to put around the cameras so folks couldn't see them in the ceiling. My father started making them, and from then on, he liked to joke that we blew bubbles for a living. Today we supply the nation's largest retailers with a complete surveillance solution, from cameras and monitors to the software and technology that powers it.

Jefferson City's a great town when it comes to understanding the work ethic of the Midwestern value system. My dad used to assume that when folks said they were going to do something, they did it. But in the world of business, many folks don't subscribe to the same philosophy. Jefferson City and its people offer the fundamentals of honesty, integrity, and responsibility, which have been essential to our business.

The city's more tangible benefits lie in its geographic location: We serve retailers across the country, and our location means that we don't have to leverage east and west coast factories to meet deadlines. -Maggie Overfelt
