Jake and Bridget Blackstone came to New York from Los Angeles to visit their daughter Julie, a college student, when they decided to wait outside Macy's flagship Manhattan store to attend its first ever Black Friday midnight opening.
Jake's pest control business is doing "about the same as the past couple of years," he said. Their holiday spending will go up, though, for one simple reason, according to Jake: His daughter's tastes are maturing.
"My daughter is a year older, so we'll probably spend quite a bit more," he said.
Starting Black Friday, two U.S. malls will track guests' movements by monitoring the signals from their cell phones.
