I grew up across the street from one of our stores and I was constantly in there with my family. As a kid, I always wanted to work here. Shortly after turning 15, I worked as a cashier.
It became apparent to me that it wasn't just a high-school job. I became a Wegmans scholarship winner and got financial aid for four years in college. [The Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program has awarded $77 million in tuition assistance to 24,000 employees over the past 27 years.]
When I graduated college I became a team leader in our produce department. I've since moved into the human resources department within our corporate offices. So many of my friends [at other companies] have had a million jobs, I think part of it is that [they] leave because there's a lack of opportunity. Here there's always room to grow.
