CEO: Edward B. Rust Jr. State Farm had to pay out for more catastrophes than usual in 2011. It had an underwriting loss of $4.5 billion, which is $1.3 billion higher than the previous year. State Farm Senior Vice President Paul Smith said in a statement "Our 2011 financial results must be viewed in the context of five catastrophe events that are among the 25 largest in our history." Still, the company increased its amount of total revenue for the year: $64.3 billion up from $63.2 billion in 2010. The company is also growing. This past February, State Farm announced that it plans to hire about 3,000 new employees, 300 of which will take on staff positions at headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois. |
