Samsung unveils new memory chips
Samsung unveiled today a working prototype of a new and improved kind of memory chip, called PRAM, which will compete with "flash" memory currently in use in cellphones and digital cameras. PC World gives the geeky lowdown on the new chips, which Samsung claims will be "30 times faster than flash memory, easier to manufacture, and will have a life span 10 times longer." Impressive, but count on rivals Toshiba, Intel and AMD - the top players in the booming flash market - to bring out their own innovations before Samsung's PRAM starts shipping in 2008. All this, of course, is nothing but welcome news for those of us juggling camera memory cards or running out of space on our cellphones for friends' phone numbers.
