The state-owned oil and gas giant Petronas is Malaysia's largest company. With revenues of $50.1 billion and profits of $12.9 billion, it contributes nearly a third of the government's total annual budget. Shortages of both experienced engineers and drilling rigs drove up costs, so profit growth slowed to 11%. Profits grew 24% in 2005 and 50% in 2004.
