He's also enjoyed success on the small screen this summer. His new show on TBS, "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," generated record-breaking ratings for a basic cable sitcom. (TBS is owned by Time Warner, the parent company of CNNMoney.com.)
So it seems likely that "Why Did I Get Married?" should do well at the box office. Perry's two Madea comedies, which catered primarily to an African-American audience, both generated more than $50 million at the box office, big numbers for films with a relatively low budget.
However, this movie is not a Madea film. So it will be interesting to see if fans want to see Perry when he's not donning his old woman garb.
The romantic comedy also stars Janet Jackson, who hasn't been in the spotlight that much following the infamous Super Bowl "Nipplegate" incident in 2004. So if this movie is a success, it could also mark a comeback for her.
