Like Lake Region, New Mexico's Mesalands Community College turned to a corporation for help when creating its wind energy technician program last year.
College president Phillip Barry flew to New York to meet with executives at industrials conglomerate GE, which promised support and donated a wind turbine model to the class.
Barry's next move: partnering with the famed Sandia National Laboratories in nearby Albuquerque to research new technologies in wind energy. According to Sandia, it's the first ever partnership between a national laboratory and a two-year school.
