Much like the green companies that are proliferating in California, training programs in solar installation, energy efficiency auditing, and auto hybrid technology are cropping up throughout the state.
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College now offers nine two-year green workforce programs, as well as a slew of green courses in other areas, like architecture and construction.
Marcy Drummond, the school's vice president of workforce development, says the selection of new programs is carefully calibrated with the job market. Los Angeles Trade-Technical is part of the L.A. Infrastructure and Sustainable Jobs Collaborative, which has done research on green job opportunities.
And the college is also following stimulus dollars, according to Drummond: "After ARRA (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act), priorities changed," she says. "Weatherization and building retrofitting went straight to the top."
