For those determined to find an ultra-luxe beach vacation on a beach bum's budget, Mexico's Riviera Maya may be the best bang for your buck, Kim said. Like the much more expensive island of Antigua, Riviera Maya has plenty for couples to do (or not do), like exploring the Mayan caves or scuba diving and snorkeling near the Great Maya Reef in the Caribbean Sea.
Opt for one of the four- or five-star resorts along the coast, like the adults-only Maroma Resort and Spa or the Viceroy, where couples can lounge in canopied beds on a white sand beach.
On average, nightly stays are nearly 50% less than alternatives in Antigua, Travelocity said. Most resorts also offer all-inclusive deals which can be a great way to save even more, Kim added.
