NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Citibank said Monday that its U.S. iPhone banking application users should update to a newer version of the software, because an earlier version mistakenly saves personal account information.
"During a recent review, we discovered that our U.S. Citi Mobile iPhone banking app was accidentally saving information related to customer accounts in a hidden file on their iPhones," the company said in a prepared statement. "This information may also have been saved on their computer if they had been synchronizing their iPhone with their computer via iTunes."
Citi said the updated application corrects the security hole by deleting any information that may have been saved on a user's iPhone or computer, and will not save information in the future.
The bank also said that it has "no reason to believe that our customers' personal information has been accessed or used inappropriately by anyone."
Citi added that it is directly notifying customers who have downloaded the application, which is "a relatively small number of our customers," about the flaw.
