Aura Green Line: GM's hybrid cost cutter

Saturn's hybrid sedan costs less than other hybrid cars, but it's not worth as much either.

Saturn Aura Green Line: Less cost, but less value
While the Aura is less expensive than other hybrid cars, it also doesn't feel as nice to drive and it uses more fuel.
Saturn Aura Green Line: Less cost, but less value
The Aura Green Line's marketing strategy is simple. If you want a hybrid sedan, they don't come any cheaper than this.

That low price is made possible by a super-simple hybrid system that has some advantages. Besides the low cost it also adds less weight to the car and takes up less storage space.

But it also doesn't give you as big of a mileage boost and, since some of your neighbors will know it's not a "real hybrid," your image as a savvy environmentalist might not shine as brightly.

The bigger issues have to do with performance and appointments. For some shoppers, the Saturn Aura's overworked engine noise and uneven braking may dull the pleasure of saving all that gasoline. More expensive hybrids perform better while also using less fuel.

Ultimately, the Saturn Aura Green Line is a bargain hybrid car that comes off as just that.
