ConocoPhillips may be the smallest of the "Big Five" global petroleum companies. But it's the biggest natural-gas producer in North America thanks to its acquisition of Burlington Resources in 2005. It's also the No. 2 oil refiner in the U.S. behind BP. Like BP, it has been suffering from aging infrastructure: Last year, failing pipes interrupted oil production in Alaska, slowing revenue growth to just 3.5%. But profit growth was strong, up 14.9% to $15.6 billion.
