Ford Focus
Lowest base price: $14,075
The only American car to make the ACEEE's Greenest Cars list, the Focus does so with a relatively brawny - for this group - 2.0-liter engine and no hybrid technology. Still, it manages to get 24 mpg in city driving and 35 on the highway.It's also designated a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) by the California Air Resources Board, the only non-hybrid gasoline-powered car in this list to earn that designation. Short of an actual zero emission vehicle, like a hydrogen fuel cell car, this is as clean as it gets.
