Revenue at the nuclear power company rose some 10% in 2007, and she beat out rival Westinghouse to score a $12.6 billion deal to build reactors in China. But Lauvergeon, 49, has faced a tougher 2008: Areva has experienced substantial cost overruns in building its next-generation power plant in Finland. In addition, there have been two leaks of radioactive material. Her next big project may well be restoring public trust.
