When my business, Paris by Design, a high-end travel consultancy focusing on custom travel to Paris, began to falter last fall, I started a new business: Montreal by Design. Instead of focusing on once-in-a-lifetime trips and high-end clients across the U.S., I zeroed in on affordable travel: Montreal as an international city with a favorable exchange rate, and a French joie de vivre; the next best thing to being in Paris - at about half the price.
