After more than two years of delays and billions of dollars in penalties, Boeing says it finally will deliver its 787 Dreamliner by the end of the year. It better. The passenger jet has a backlog of 850 orders, the largest pre-order in aviation history.

The company also is in the throes of testing reconfigurations of its famous 747 jumbo jet, the 747-8. Lufthansa and Korean Air have standing orders for a freighter version of the plane; a passenger edition is still in the works.

With commercial air travel showing signs of life, Boeing stock has followed suit, soaring more than 100% in the past year. --P.N.
