The insurance conglomerate - which also offers mutual funds and other banking services - earned $5.3 billion in 2006, up 64% from the year before, as the number of claims returned to normal following the Katrina/Wilma highs of 2005. The company recently announced it would reexamine 35,000 hurricane claims following the threat of a class action lawsuit.* There are currently 2,106 suits pending against the insurer.
