Chevron
Chevron has worked with the Cawelo Water District in California's semi-arid San Joaquin Valley to export produced water from the Kern River oil field into a reservoir that irrigates more than 46,000 acres of farmland. Steve Harris is from the lab that tests the reservoir's water.

Chevron made a huge leap this year, jumping from No. 30 last year to the top 10. A new criteria of this year's ranking measures the number of controversial incidents a company is in involved in, and Chevron scored highly: It has not recorded any major accidents or spills in recent years.

The company is also aggressively moving into low-carbon-dioxide-emitting biofuels. It also scores highly on stakeholder engagement with its "Power of Human Energy" advertising campaign asking consumers to start dialogues with the company about the world's energy future.
