Po the Panda may not have Iron Man's strength or Indiana Jones' bravado but the star of DreamWorks' "Kung Fu Panda" does have one advantage.
"Family films are king during the summer and a movie like `Kung Fu Panda' has the ability to capture the entire family audience," Bock said.
"Kung Fu Panda" is very marketable," Pandya said. "It's got a great title, it's fast paced and funny." And the film's main competitor, Pixar's "Wall-E," comes out two weeks later, so the two films are "far enough apart that they wont eat into each others business," he said.
DreamWorks had a string of hits with its Shrek series, including last year's "Shrek the Third," which grossed $322 million in the U.S.. Though Po and Shrek are both portly and lovable, the Shrek franchise was "an absolute phenomenon," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.
While it remains to be seen if Po can replicate Shrek's success, Dergarabedian points out that "anything by DreamWorks is going to be a factor at the box office."
Jack Black, who is part animated creature himself, stars as the voice of Po.
