Microsoft is still working to keep its image fresh. CEO Steve Ballmer has come under fire recently for focusing too much on the Windows platform, stifling innovation in other areas. Its search engine Bing is slowly gaining share, but doesn't yet pose a real threat to Google's dominance.

Microsoft has been making moves to compete with Groupon -- in early March it partnered with a local and national deal aggregator called Dealmap to break into social shopping. --S.D.
