The former Fresh Prince is starring in this remake of 1971's "Omega Man," which featured Charlton Heston as Robert Neville, the only normal survivor of a war that brought about a blological weapons-induced apocalypse.
In this update, Smith is a scientist in New York City trying to find a cure for the virus. Analysts said this movie is probably about as close to being a sure hit as any due out this fall.
The fact that Smith, who is almost universally loved by fans, will get to kick some butt is familiar ground for those who have watched him fight aliens in "Independence Day" and the "Men in Black" films and machines in "I, Robot."
"Will Smith is one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood," said Pandya, who added that if "I Am Legend" tops the $100 million mark at the box office as expected, this would mark the sixth consecutive year that Smith has starred in a movie that passed the $100 million level.
