Fortunately for Toyota, it is the Prius for which the company is now best known. It's not surprising, since the Sequoia was an entry into a well-covered field. But the Prius was something much newer.
Honda had already brought its Insight hybrid to the United States. But the Prius was more promising and practical. And the redesigned 2004 model was even better, winning Motor Trend's "Car of the Year" as well as a slew of other awards.
The Prius has proved to be more than a fad. With increased production for the U.S. market, it has become the company's third best-selling car here after the Camry and Corolla.
