Freedom was supposed to turn Delphi into an unstoppable global giant. But eight years after its spinoff from General Motors, it still hasn't been able to cut the umbilical cord. The company, GM's primary auto parts supplier, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005. In June, Delphi and its unions agreed on a package of hourly wage cuts and production plant closings. Next up: renegotiating an unprofitable relationship with its former parent.
