This state-owned importer of oil and gas is Taiwan's biggest company. But it struggled last year to bring in enough fuel, especially natural gas, to satisfy demand. Rising natural gas and crude oil prices sent CPC's costs through the roof. In recent years the company has been expanding its own production by buying oil and gas fields in places like Chad, Ecuador, and Indonesia.
