According to Parker Boston, the number of hedge funds interested in investing their side capital (usually about 10%) in small businesses has increased. With more opportunistic capital available, some hedge funds are building infrastructures similar to that of a private equity or venture capital firm to support their investments in small scalable companies. This year, Parker Boston facilitated about six deals between small companies and hedge funds. (PB receives between $100,000 and $1 million in advisory fees for each one of these deals.)
In addition to managing and securing capital for privately-held companies, PB has expanded its consulting services over the past year and now offers advice on human resources, marketing, and technology.
