Based in Colorado, Liberty Global ( LBTYA) is the largest cable company outside of the United States, with operations in 14 countries.
Liberty Global provides video, broadband and telephone services to more than 17 million customers worldwide. It was spun out of Liberty Media in 2005 and is controlled b John Malone, an industry veteran.
The company is positioned to grow revenues in Europe as customers convert from analog to digital cable packages, said Jason White, equity analyst at T. Rowe Price International.
Like other media companies, Liberty Global generates a lot of cash, said White. The company's management "is very shareholder focused" and has done a good job of buying back shares and deploying capital.
Despite concerns about its debt load, Liberty Global is expected to repurchase $1 billion worth of shares this year.
