Concept: To help diabetes sufferers, Saatwic Foods (saatwic.com) has developed the CarboStar Method, a patented food processing technique that, it claims, slows the release of calories during digestion. It does so by strengthening the protective wall of the starch cell. "It allows diabetics to enjoy the same foods as the rest of us can," says co-founder and president Ajay Chawan, whose father, Danny, is the chief scientist who created the product. The company, which has already partnered with food manufacturers and received a round of private, angel funding, is now looking to raise venture capital.
