France's largest bank was created when Crédit Agricole bought Crédit Lyonnais in 2003. The group's revenues grew 16% last year. Still, it didn't grow as much as French competitors BNP Paribas and Société Générale, which both do more business outside of France's slow-growing economy. So last year Crédit Agricole bought a Greek bank Emporiki, which it hopes will spur future growth, and says it has allocated billions of euros for future acquisitions beyond France.
