Clean, dry air, rustic adobe architecture and panoramic views of the Sandia mountains to the south make Corrales a prime spot just a few miles from central Albuquerque. Residents sip beer at the local brewery, lounge at one of the several good restaurants downtown, hike on trails near the Rio Grande and even ride horses to the post office. Job cuts at a nearby Intel plant don't bode well for the local economy, but Corrales remains an enchanting small town for families and retirees who can afford its high real estate prices. -A.F.
