During the gold rush, people used to pass through Parker on their way to seek riches. Today the town has become a destination. Incorporated in 1981 with just 285 residents, Parker's population has grown to over 45,000. Part of the appeal is location. Only 25 miles outside Denver, many residents commute to the Mile High City for work. But the town itself has plenty to offer. Parker puts on dozens of community events, including Race for the Taste and Let Freedom Sing. Parks and walking trails scattered throughout the town are also an attraction for residents. -B.N.
