New ideas from dead CEOs

Lasting lessons from business leaders who've gone to the great corner office in the sky.

Mary Kay Ash
Obstacle:
May Kay launches her cosmetics company just weeks after her husband, her key business adviser, dies suddenly of a heart attack.

Innovation:
She inspires inexperienced women into believing they can be successful salespeople, while providing them with an incentive to bring more and more women into the sales force.

Lesson for today:
Mary Kay, with her drive and passion, was like Oprah with a map and a monthly sales target. She taught the world that you can give part-time workers the incentive to be as productive as full-timers. Just as Mary Kay realized that women were an untapped resource, companies today are shifting their attention to hiring senior citizens, many of whom have the time and desire to work part-time between retirement activities.
