Los Angeles Auto Show greatest hits

Nissan supercar, Honda hydrogen car, new Toyota Sequoia SUV, Lincoln's new big car, unveiled at California car show.

Built with the same two-mode hybrid system used in the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon Hybrid SUVs, the Silverado Hybrid promises a 25 percent improvement in overall fuel economy. City fuel economy is 40 percent improved.

And the regular Silverado is no gas guzzler to begin with. A V8 Silverado gets overall fuel economy - 16 miles per gallon, according to new, more realistic, EPA estimates - that's one mile per gallon short of what the V6-powered Honda Ridgeline gets.

So the new version should get about 20 miles per gallon in overall city and highway driving. That's better than other full-sized trucks do in highway cruising alone and it could mean hundreds of dollars in annual fuel savings.

It's rated to tow up 6,100 pounds and can drive in all-electric mode at low speeds, even when towing or hauling heavy loads, GM says.
