I've worked in grocery for my entire career. I was with a competing grocer and always felt a different ethos going into a Wegmans, so I applied and started as a night manager. From there I became an assistant store manager, then merchandise manager and then store manager.
I just love it. No day is the same as the previous day. I'm usually here until 6 in the evenings and on Fridays I work until 8, or if it's really fun I stick around until 9. Sometimes I lose track of time.
You get out on the sales floor and you start to talk to a "family member" [Wegmans employee] or a customer and before you know it, times go by. We spend a lot of time together talking. About 500 people work in this store and I know them all and am familiar with most of their family members as well. My son works here too, but he's no different from the other folks. Plus the company is family owned and there's access to the senior executives. I can speak to the senior VP or the president if I have any questions. The opportunity for development and growth draws you in and it's fun.
