2009 profit: $7.7 billion
The world's No. 1 personal-computer maker faced a tough market in 2009. Worldwide PC sales recorded one of the largest drops ever in the first quarter as HP's PC unit posted a double-digit drop in revenue. But by the end of the year, computer sales of its popular Pavilion laptops had rebounded and HP was back to business as usual. Still, HP's profits edged lower for the year.
