Derby is described as a close-knit community of families drawn from nearby Wichita by its highly-rated schools and affordable home prices.
But Derby is not strictly a bedroom community. It has a growing number of small businesses and is working to attract more commercial investment. The area around Derby is home to several major aerospace companies including Boeing.
