Median home price: $131,000
Median family income (per year): $84,490

Located just outside of Indianapolis, Brownsburg benefits from its proximity to a couple of large car racetracks, including the one that the legendary Indianapolis 500 is run on. A handful of racing companies -- such as Prudhomme Racing, John Force Racing, and Saldana Racing Products -- have set up shop in Brownsburg. In addition to industry related to the speedway, Brownsburg has some light manufacturing and warehouses that provide jobs.

With downtown Indianapolis just a half hour away, commuters are attracted to the affordable housing in close proximity to a bigger city: oversupply of homes from foreclosure has pushed prices sharply lower. Brownsburg is also a short hop from the Indianapolis International Airport, making it convenient for frequent travelers.--C.C.
