A well-placed tee shot is mandatory here, as this is another hole with myriad options on the second shot. We added an extra tee on the east side of a small residential road to add some yardage to the course, which moved the landing area back towards the tee, thus allowing a direct approach to the green over a native grass swale.
The fairway slopes right to left, so I try to hit a right to left fairway wood to hold the shot into the slope. And it's smart to keep it on the left side of the fairway, as the slope will try and bring most shots to the far right side.
This is another example of a sloping collection area, which extends 100 feet up the hill to the left, giving higher handicappers a hand, as you can reach the green without having to carry your approach all the way to the putting surface. Someone willing to aim completely away from the pin to try to land their shot near the top of the slope will be rewarded with a result that is often high in the center of the green. With considerable margin for error, this is a much easier shot than playing directly at the pin to a long narrow green.
