This is a medium length par-4 that punishes players that just blast away wildly with a driver. At the same time, it rewards players that think about their tee shot and play to a particular area of the fairway.
This is one of my favorite par-4s on the course because of the strategy required on the tee shot. Essentially it calls for restraint, something many players struggle with!
A long drive isn't beneficial here, and in fact may leave you with a sidehill lie to an uphill green. And if you're too close to the green you will be stuck with a blind second shot. The green sits high and is protected by bunkers to the front and right, and a deep collection in the back. The prudent play is to take a long iron or a fairway wood off the tee, which will leave you on the upper plateau of the fairway. From there it's just an 8- or a 9-iron to the green.
