Tokyo Electric Power lost $1.3 billion in 2007, a loss the company attributes to substantial increases in fuel costs and electricity expenses.
Like most businesses, Tokyo Electric felt the pressure of higher gas and energy prices worldwide. But in addition, TEP's electricity production was affected when the Japanese authorities shut down the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant due to safety concerns following an earthquake.
